Throughout the academic year, many Georgetown University students receive distinctive honors and awards. In order to recognize these students for their hard work and dedication, the Office of Communications distributes press releases to their hometown newspapers. Many newspapers will print the stories as part of their coverage of news about local residents.
What is a hometown news release?
A hometown news release is an announcement sent to local newspapers that allows family and friends back home to read about students' awards and accomplishments. For example, press releases are often distributed for students who:
  • receive scholarships or fellowships
  • receive awards or special distinctions
  • enter or graduate from the university
In order for hometown news releases to be issued by the Office of Communications, students need to complete the following form:
» Hometown News Release Submission Form
       (a valid NetID is required)

Please note: The Office of Communications reserves the right to review the information and determine whether or not a press release will be written and distributed. News organizations make independent editorial judgments on what news items run in their publications. Major news outlets are sometimes less likely to have space to run news stories on these items.
International students: due to the timeliness and nature of hometown news our systems are currently configured only for students whom are residents of the U.S. We are working on ways to expand our systems and ensure the delivery of notifications to international media outlets and apologize for any inconvenience.
